02. Active recall02

A systematic recall to create memory anchors

To memorize effectively, you must internalize the content you read or listen to. The most reliable way to achieve this is to perform regular recall of newly assimilated knowledge.

That is why, at the end of each content block, we have integrated a simple quiz. Its purpose is to force you to mobilize your memory to recall what you have just learned.

This recall occurs intentionally very quickly after a specific and targeted subject. The goal is not to trap you with ambiguous or overly difficult questions, but to provoke just the effort necessary to encode the information.

Your brain is then forced to recontextualize and rephrase what it has just received using its own words and its own framework of meaning.

  • Recall facilitates the creation of anchors for new data in semantic memory.
  • Semantic links between newly acquired concepts and already mastered knowledge make the information more accessible to consciousness.

03. Consolidation03

Optimally spaced reviews to consolidate memorization

Nemic natively integrates a spaced repetition system. The principle is simple: regularly recall knowledge just before it fades into oblivion.

You define a time of day when you are most often available. If reviews are needed that day, you receive a notification that takes you directly to your session.

These reviews take the form of a list of summary blocks, which you can expand to review the full original content. Then, you answer a series of multiple-choice questions without accessing the original data.

At the end, you get a score that evaluates your retention level. This is not a grade: we discard any competitive logic and dopaminergic mechanisms that hinder the learning process.

In our system, error is a useful signal. It is used to automatically adjust the spacing of reviews using the FSRS algorithm, so that you review what you struggle with more often and what is already well mastered less often.

What this changes in practice

  • You avoid the overload of unnecessary reviews.
  • You focus your efforts on points that are still fragile.
  • You achieve lasting memorization with a minimum of conscious effort.

Error is not punished: it improves your review schedule.

Scan difficult problems from different angles

When a concept remains obscure and you cannot answer the recall question, the application automatically generates a rephrased version to give you a different perspective on the subject.

To fully understand a complex problem, it is very effective to approach it from a different angle.

Imagine your problem as a complex three-dimensional object placed in front of you. If you look at it from only one angle, it will be harder to understand than if you walk around it to observe it from multiple perspectives.

This is the principle we apply here to allow you optimal understanding of your subject of study.

Changing angles at the right time often helps unlock a concept without weighing down the learning experience.
